2. Transportation Guide
Train and high-speed rail are available; you can take bus routes 1 or 16 (during peak tourist season, special buses dispatched by the bus company are available).
Public Transport: There is a bus stop within 500 meters, but you can choose to take bus routes 1, 2, 3, or 10.
Taxi: The starting fare for taxis in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is 8 yuan, with a starting distance of 3 kilometers and a charge of 2 yuan per kilometer, with no fuel surcharge.
Self-driving: You can search for 'Kalachakra Mandala' using navigation software for detailed route guidance.
3. Tour Strategy
First Floor: Tourist Center (team and individual reception services, ticket purchase, rest area, and various functional areas).
Second Floor: Tibetan Culture and Treasures Exhibition Area, intangible cultural heritage experience venue, and display of various precious Tibetan cultural relics and artworks.
Third Floor: The atrium features the Great Hall of Kalachakra Vajra Buddha, surrounded by exhibition halls (Tibetan weapon exhibition hall and time tunnel showcasing Tibetan casting techniques and water-pattern knives, intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall, as well as the changes over time in the plateau).
Fourth to Sixth Floors: Various exhibition halls showcasing Tibetan history, culture, and religious beliefs. (The sixth floor is not yet open to the public.)
Seventh to Ninth Floors: The core area of Kalachakra Mandala, featuring the largest indoor three-dimensional mandala in the world, with a diameter of 14.23 meters and a height of 7.37 meters across five levels. It contains grains, rare treasures, Tibetan medicine, scriptures, and sacred objects from major monasteries in the Tibetan region.
4. Tour Experience
Guided Services: After entering the scenic area, you can follow a guide or interpreter to learn about Tibetan culture and history. However, please note that some interpreters may guide visitors to offer lamps, donate incense money or purchase dzi beads and thangkas; please decide whether to participate based on personal willingness.
Photo Opportunities: The Great Buddha of Kalachakra and the three-dimensional mandala are excellent spots for photos; remember to bring your camera or phone to capture these beautiful moments.
Cultural Experience: You can experience thangka painting and Tibetan incense making to gain a deeper understanding of the unique charm of Tibetan culture.
