In 2014, the largest indoor statue of Kalachakra in the country was certified by Guinness in Greater Shanghai. Centuries ago, the Buddha manifested as the deity of Kalachakra to transmit the teachings of Kalachakra for the benefit of sentient beings and the wisdom of King Mönlam of Shambhala. We are fortunate to witness the majestic statue of Kalachakra in Shangri-La on the snowy plateau. The statue, standing in the Cultural and Museum Center, explains to people the laws of birth and death of the universe and life in time with its exquisite and solemn appearance. The entire statue is 21 meters tall and weighs 20 tons, with its face gilded and the rest crafted using gold leaf techniques. Every detail of the statue tells stories about time, compassion, and the experiences of wisdom in life. On May 28, 2015, it was consecrated by the Eleventh Panchen Lama, endowing the entire Kalachakra statue with immeasurable merit. Kalachakra, the wheel of time, the wheel of life. It is our fortune to listen to the teachings of Kalachakra on the snowy plateau, and we hope more people will come to this scenic area, surrounded by compassion and wisdom.
The Tibetan weapon exhibition hall on the third floor showcases the casting craftsmanship of the Tibetan people—the water-patterned knife, which is a pinnacle work of Tibetan casting art. Behind the water-patterned knife lies the accumulation of effort from Tibetan craftsmen, as well as a sedimentation of time and wisdom. The hunting civilization also experienced a qualitative leap with the advent of firearms.
The time tunnel on the third floor seems to tell us about the years on the plateau. Moonlight City—Dukezong, where horse hooves echo on stone paths, embodying the resilience and bravery of caravan people. Commercial civilization flourished on the plateau, allowing culture to be exchanged and spread. Here, one can imagine that at nightfall, a family sits by the fire pit, shedding a day's labor; Grandma's face appears particularly gentle and kind in the firelight. Meanwhile, in the distance, Sunlight City shines alongside Moonlight City, where Songzanlin Monastery quietly stands, waiting for the sound of dharma to ring out—a compassionate voice praying for all beings that has never ceased.
As time flows by, Moonlight City bustles with activity while Sunlight City remains solemn and dignified. Centuries later, the people of Shangri-La still bask in the brilliance of day and night, inheriting their ancestors' history and glory while forging their own path unique to Shangri-La.
