The themes and content are very rich. On June 21, 2015, a total of 1,699 thangkas exhibited here broke the Guinness World Record for the most thangkas displayed at one time. Among them is a thangka named 'Atisha', which has a history of over 600 years and represents the lost Nyingma painting style. The master Atisha depicted in the painting is the founder of the Kadam school of Tibetan Buddhism, and the entire thangka encompasses all the lineage masters and great monks of the Kadam school.
This thangka is the oldest, most comprehensive, and most valuable thangka in the Shambhala Kalachakra Mandala scenic area, making it a treasure of the museum. In this scenic area, there are also two series of thangkas: the brand thangka 'Shambhala Dynasty' and the thangka of Tibetan medicine 'Four Medical Treatises'. Notably, the 'Four Medical Treatises' has expanded from the original 74 pieces to 175 pieces, making it the most complete set of Tibetan medical thangkas. It can be said that thangkas are an encyclopedia of Tibetan culture, covering various deities in Tibetan Buddhism, great monks, Tibetan medicine, Tibetan astronomy, and calendar studies. Through these thangkas from different eras, we can gain an overall understanding of the crystallization of wisdom from the Tibetan people in various aspects.
